The LumaSense FocalPoint temperature monitor and MedFP™ probes are ideally suited for use during ablation procedures by providing real-time temperature distribution feedback. The FocalPoint system offers precise, accurate, real-time temperature data indicating the extent of thermal spread during ablative procedures. When used in conjunction with tumor ablation devices during a procedure, the FocalPoint temperature monitoring system enables the physician to have greater control by assessing temperature at the margins of the tumor.
With the number of cancer cases increasing globally, physicians and patients are seeking less invasive and less costly tumor treatment modalities, which is currently being accomplished through thermal ablative techniques including radiofrequency (RF), microwave and laser procedures. Procedures falling short of complete tumor ablation may result in tumor recurrence.
The measure of success is the complete destruction of cancerous cells in the target area. The LumaSense FocalPoint system provides the physician with a minimally invasive tool to assess treatment, possibly sparing viable tissue and reducing the variables encountered with differing tissue characteristics.
MedFP Probes
The LumaSense MedFP temperature probes are stable, inert and immune to external energy sources, thus providing accurate temperature measurements - even in harsh environments. The probes are 100% non-metallic in construction. The FocalPoint Temperature Monitor and MedFP probes utilize LumaSense's patented Fluoroptic® sensing technology, proven in tissue applications for more than 25 years.
