Fermentation Monitor - Innova 1313

LumaSense's Fermentation Monitor Innova - 1313 simultaneously measures the concentrations of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide in the exhaust gas from fermenters, enabling on-line, real-time calculation of the Respiratory Quotient (RQ). At the same time, the concentration of Hydrocarbons produced (for example Ethanol) can be measured. It can be integrated into permanent monitoring systems to provide fast and accurate measurement results, even over wide concentration ranges.

The monitor with its analogue and digital outputs, can transfer measurement data to the system's process computer, to a chart recorder, or to a PC. The PC software supplied with the monitor provides user-friendly procedures to set up and calibrate the monitor prior to measuring, displays measurement data as colored graphics, and stores data on the PC's disk while measurements are being made.

Features

  • Stability - long intervals between calibrations
  • Accuracy as a good Mass Spectrometer
  • Fast response time enables real-time measurements
  • Low running costs
  • Negligible maintenance costs
  • Stand-alone operation
  • Wide dynamic range
  • 19-inch rack mounting case foe easy system integration
  • 4-20 mA galvanic isolated analog output
  • PC software for calibration, set up and measurement via the RS232 socket

Measuring Gas

Measurement samples are drawn by the built-in pump from the process line and delivered to the monitor via tubing. The sample flow rate is 130 ml/minute.

Gas Measurement Method

Two acoustics-based measurement methods are employed in the monitor: Photoacoustic Spectroscopy to measure the Hydrocarbon and Carbon Dioxide concentrations and Magnetoacoustic Spectroscopy to measure Oxygen concentrations. The same microphone is used as a transducer for both measurement methods, providing a true real-time relationship between the measurements. These measurement methods only require small quantities of sample gas, providing very fast results for all three gases.

Gas Measurement Results

The monitor has both an analogue and a digital interface. The analogue interface provides 0-24mA signals, which are suitable for connection to most process-control computers or chart recorders. The digital output interfaces with the PC, and provides measurement data for the graphics display and for storage. Measurement data can be transferred using either of the interfaces, depending on which method best suits your requirements.

Calibration and Maintenance

Calibration of the monitor is easily performed, in situ, using the easy-access RS232 socket and gas inlet on the front panel. In addition to this, the monitor contains no consumable parts, keeping down time and maintenance costs to a minimum.
