LumaSense Technologies’ leadership in providing leading edge fiber optic temperature solutions to the industry has allowed us to develop a world class calibration laboratory with temperature dry baths that are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards in Washington D.C. These NIST traceable dry baths allow LumaSense Technologies to perform extremely accurate calibration of our Luxtron Fluoroptic® temperature (FOT) instruments, extensions, and probes.
With the calibration laboratory, we can offer two types of calibration services for our FOT instrument customers. Please contact your sales representative for pricing and more information.
Initial Calibration Initial system (instrument, probes and extensions) calibration is performed on new Luxtron instruments, probes and extension at the time of purchase. The system calibration is performed on NIST traceable dry bathes by factory-trained technicians and comes with a “Certificate of Calibration”, a system calibration sticker on the instrument, and identity tags on each of the probes and extensions. These documents meet the requirements of most company’s ISO and quality systems. Initial calibration service comes with 1 year of recalibration and system check, if required. Due to the inherent stability of the phosphorescent material, no recalibration is normally required unless the customer needs recalibration due to the:
- Use of a new probe
- Use of new type of probe
- Need for a replacement probe
- Need for calibration at a different temperature
The customer can return the system (instrument, probes and extension), anytime, for recalibration and system check within 1 year of the purchase of the initial calibration service.
Annual Calibration and System Check Although the Luxtron instrument are inherently stable and do not require recalibration under normal use, we offer an annual system calibration service and system check for customers whose ISO system or quality procedures require annual calibration.
The annual system (instrument, probes and extensions) calibration and system check service is performed on previously purchased Luxtron instruments, probes and extensions. The system calibration will be performed on NIST traceable dry bathes by factory-trained technicians and comes with a “Certificate of Calibration” a system calibration sticker on the instrument, and identity tags on each of the probes and extensions. The entire instrument is also checked before calibration to insure that the Luxtron instrument is functioning to original specification. The system check is an extensive testing protocol that is followed for new units and includes:
- Attenuation Test (optics test)
- Drift Test (temperature measurement accuracy over time in calibrated mode at one temperature)
- Accuracy Test (test a series of temperatures from -25°C to 300°C in uncalibrated mode)
- Analog Test, if applicable (check the analog out reading according to the customer settings)
This annual calibration service requires that the FOT instrument, probes and extensions be shipped back to LumaSense Technologies for calibration. The standard turnaround time is three to five (3 to 5) days from receipt of the FOT system back at LumaSense Technologies. The instrument, probes and extensions can be sent back to LumaSense Technologies at anytime during the life of the contract term for calibration and system check, and the contract prices will be locked in for the duration of the contract.
Notes on Calibration Service
- Due to USFDA and California Department of Health regulations, we cannot accept biomedical probes (STB, MRC, MRS, MRR) for calibration.
- Calibration service requires that the entire system, FOT instrument, probes and extensions be returned to LumaSense Technologies for system calibration. Please refer to the return instructions here . For more information on calibration of LumaSense Technologies’ Luxtron FOT instruments, please refer to the Technical Note “Calibration of Fluoroptic Instruments” .
