The m924 Utility Module is a four-channel Fiber Optic Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) board for Transformer Winding Hot Spot and Temperature Monitoring. The m924 Utility Module is a cost-effective OEM board that provides temperature monitoring with RS485 Modbus and RS232 ASCII digital communication. The m924 is a guaranteed backward compatible module when using LUXTRON Fiber Optic DipTip and Quality Probes, Extension Cables, and Tank Wall Plates.

Easy integration into OEM equipment
The m924 Utility Module is one board that contains four fiber optic temperature sensing channels, RS232 ASCII and RS485 Modbus digital output, and 5 to 24 VDC power input connection. The m924 board conditions the measurement signal from Fluoroptic® probes and reports a temperature to the OEM control system. The custom non-metallic probe sensors are safe in harsh environments and connect to the m924 board via robust fiber optics.
Backward compatibility with LUXTRON m600 Series Utility Modules, and LUXTRON Fluoroptic® Probes
The m924 Utility system works with all current LUXTRON® brand Fluoroptic Utility probes and fiber optic extensions. The m924 Utility Module user interface command is very similar to the m600 Series Utility Modules.
Direct, Accurate and Real-Time Transformer Winding Hot Spot and Temperature Monitoring
Conventional winding temperature indicators (WTIs) “infer” the hot spot temperature by measuring the transformer load on a single phase and the surrounding oil temperature, and then apply a model. There can be up to five-hour thermal lag between actual changes in hot spot temperatures and when they are sensed by a WTI. In addition, tests have shown a 5 to 20 °C difference between the simulated value provided by WTI and what is measured directly with fiber optic. This temperature difference can result in insulation damage and a reduction in transformer useful life.
In contrast, the m924 Utility Module measures the winding hot spot directly and accurately in real-time without models or electromagnetic interference. With instant results, controllers can act immediately, preventing transformer asset damage.
