Increasing reliability through continuous and remote substation asset monitoring
For many years, portable thermal imaging cameras served as a reliable tool in preventive maintenance of electrical distribution systems in low-, medium-, and high-voltage installations, where they are often used at periodic time intervals. To fully realize condition-based maintenance, sites need continuous monitoring of critical substation connections and assets, such as transformers, bushings, disconnects and capacitor banks, to provide an automated early-warning detection of developing failures.
The Challenge
The equipment in the majority of electrical power substations is old and near its end of useful life. The potential for faults or the complete failure of these devices due to their age increases as the amount of required energy usage increases. In an attempt to prevent this, thermal imaging systems are deployed in critical locations throughout the electrical power distribution systems. The end result is the decrease in maintenance activity and the procurement of replacement devices become a viable strategy. Furthermore, the safety and reliability of the substation equipment is increased and the loss of the distribution of electrical power from a major asset failure can be prevented.
Our Solution for Automated & Remote Thermal Image Monitoring
ThermalSpection™ 724DV - An Automated, Continuous Thermal and Visual Imaging system to Identify Thermal Abnormalities within Electrical Power Substations.
Designed with advanced maintenance-free electronics and industrial protective packaging, the ThermalSpection™ 724DV system offers a high degree of accuracy for demanding electric power utility’s while accurately measuring asset temperature without contact in even the most adverse environments. ThermalSpection includes software that controls, captures and stores fully radiometric (thermal) images continuously into an SQL archive that supports alerts and retrospective analysis.
The ThermalSpection™ 724DV monitoring system can combine multiple devices, including pan and tilt cameras, fixed cameras, and pyrometer for the most cost effective and comprehensive system solution for electric power substations.
Your Benefits
The ThermalSpection™ 724DV system provides thermal remote monitoring for all assets within a power substation. A communication link runs from each camera to a local junction box located on-site. This allows quick access to the camera’s thermal readings and configuration options. A secondary link runs from each substation controller to a central database, allowing remote monitoring and configuration of all cameras from anywhere on the corporate network.
- Enables Thermography 24/7
